Compound Design
Bromobutyl rubber offers the best all-round chemical resistance. It can be vulcanized over several weeks at room temperature by the combination of Vulkacit® 576 (a condensation product of aniline and an aldehyde) and Rhenogran® ETU (a thiourea). The vulcanization speed can be regulated by varying the level of ETU. In this cure system, lead oxide replaces the more usually employed zinc oxide. The lead oxide offers resistance to water swelling in the final vulcanizate.
